The Turks and Caicos
Islands or TCI for short, are a British Overseas
Territory consisting of the larger Caicos
Islands and smaller Turks
Islands, two groups of tropical islands in the Lucayan Archipelago, part
of the larger Antilles island grouping. They are known primarily for tourism
and as an offshore financial centre. Source
The Palm Islands are two artificial islands in Dubai, United Arab Emirates in the shape of palm trees. The Belgian and Dutch dredging and marine contractors Jan De Nul and Van Oord, were hired to complete construction. The islands are the Palm Jumeirah and the Palm Jebel Ali. Each settlement will be in the shape of a palm tree, topped with a crescent. Source
Achill Island
in County Mayo is the largest island off the coast of Ireland, and is situated
off the west coast. It has a population of 2,700. Achill is attached to the mainland by Michael
Davitt Bridge, between the villages of Gob an Choire (Achill Sound) and Poll
Raithni. A bridge was first completed here in 1887, replaced by another
structure in 1949, and subsequently replaced with the current bridge which was
completed in 2008. Source
Union Island is part of the nation of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. It lies 90 kilometers southwest of Barbados and is within view of the islands of Carriacou and the mainland of Grenada, which lie directly south. Clifton and Ashton are the two principal towns. The island is home to approximately 3,000 residents. The official language is English, but French and German are spoken by some merchants in Clifton as well. Source
Maldives officially the Republic of the Maldives and also referred to as the Maldive Islands, is an island nation in the Indian Ocean–Arabian Sea area, consisting of a double chain of twenty-six atolls. Maldives is the lowest country in the world, with maximum and average natural ground levels of only 2.4 metres and 1.5 metres in above sea level, respectively. In areas where construction exists, however, this has been increased to several metres. More than 80 per cent of the country's land is composed of coral islands which rise less than one metre above sea level. Source
